WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO LEARN AND USE THE CATALAN LANGUAGE
Welcome to Lleida. If you want to live here, study, or work, Catalan will also be your language—regardless of your native language or how many others you already speak and should continue using. If you already live, study, or work in Lleida, Catalan is also your language, no matter your origin. You are also a citizen of Lleida. We are proud of our city and of what we are building together. Lleida is a city of coexistence—diverse, multilingual, and intercultural—where we all share and celebrate the unique and genuine character of our city.
Learning Catalan is a rewarding experience that helps you communicate in both social and professional settings, connect with the city's culture, and become a part of it. Understanding, speaking, and writing Catalan gives you value and advantages for living and integrating in Lleida, and for being a part of the community. It is also necessary to increase your opportunities in the labor and professional world. Therefore, this website’s goal is not only to inform you about resources to learn, improve, and promote the use of Catalan, but also to foster connections between all people and the city’s rich cultural heritage.
The Taula per la Llengua (Language Roundtable) is here to help you learn and improve it.

Catalan is the official and native language of Catalonia, and the language of Lleida’s citizens. We speak a particular variety, the North-Western dialect, which characterizes us as people from Lleida. Catalan is also a language of national and international prestige—an official European language and one of the most spoken languages in the world. Wherever you go, you may find Catalan-speaking communities who preserve their Catalan identity and take pride in their language, wherever they live.
Understanding, speaking, and writing Catalan also connects you with other areas of Spain: the Franja de Ponent (Aragon), the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands. Internationally, Catalan is also spoken in Northern Catalonia (France), Alghero (Italy), and it is the official and native language of Andorra.
